Twilight Convention on a budget? No prob!

As you all know Kristie and I are Twilight junkies!  We are going to another Twilight Convention this August, and we have invested some serious money into our convention in Toronto.  This is a once a year (for us) event so we are ok with going all out and bankrupting ourselves.

BUT some people may not want to spend that amount of money.  Twilight Lexicon, who are very often panelist at The Official Twilight Conventions around the US have posted a great article on doing a convention on a budget.  Here's a snippet:

"So figuring that a trip to the movies costs roughly $10.00 for the ticket and another $5.00 or so for your popcorn and soda combo. There is actually a way to get a day’s entertainment for about $10.00 more than your standard trip to the movies.

If you go to the convention on a Saturday or Sunday, you usually end up seeing three stars minimum do a Q & A, you get a Lexicon panel (sorry shameless self promotion), a Hillywood panel, chance to win trivia/costume contest prizes, and the ability to take as many pictures as you want of the celebrities onstage with your own camera, and you have access to the vendor room where you can drop more cash if you so choose. All of this will run you $25.00, roughly $10.00 more than a trip to the movies.

Now let’s say you’re still on a budget but you want to upgrade a little. You can get an autograph with one of the actors in say your already purchased Twilight/New Moon Companion book so add $25. That brings you to $50.00 total."

They have some other really great tips in there as well, read the whole thing here.

And just because I adore this picture so much, here is Kristie and I with the Wolfpack during last summers Twilight Convention in NJ.

SHOUT OUT TO ALL OUR NJ & NYC FRIENDS!

Jackson Rathbone Talks 'Dread' & 'The Last Airbender' - fearnet.com interview Pt 2

Here is part 2 of the Jackson fearnet interview.
Photobucket
"In his time off from the ongoing Twilight series, Jackson Rathbone decided to dive right into a film about the nature of fear itself: Dread, based on the Book of Blood short story by horror-fantasy author Clive Barker. In the film, adapted and directed by Anthoni DiBlasi, Rathbone plays Stephen, a mild-mannered film student who gets caught up in a classmate's study of fear -- a project that takes an unexpectedly dark and disturbing turn.

FEARnet spoke with Rathbone by phone as he was preparing to play New Orleans with his band, 100 Monkeys, with whom he'll be touring right up to the start of his promo duties for June's The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. (Read our Eclipse-focused chat with Rathbone here) Rathbone discussed his reasons for taking on the part in the gory psychological thriller -- including the behind-the-scenes story of his brush with a live maggot, partially documented on the Dread DVD, out this week -- and how the disparate worlds of Dread and Twilight both fit into his multi-faceted career.

Rathbone also recalled his challenging guest spot on Criminal Minds as a killer with multiple personality disorder and spoke about fight training for M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender, his upcoming fantasy-action film. Dallas fans can catch Rathbone in person on April 24, when he appears with 100 Monkeys at the Spencer Bell Legacy Concert in memory of his late friend, Spencer Bell, whose posthumously-released song Beautiful, More So also marks Rathbone's music video directing debut.

Dread is out on DVD this week as part of the After Dark Horrorfest.

FEARnet: How's the tour going, and where are you right now? Do you get pulled back from time to time to do press for films like Dread and the upcoming Twilight film, Eclipse?

Jackson Rathbone: We just got into New Orleans, which is nice because my mom was born and raised here. Well, basically I kind of go back and forth; sometimes we have driving days and literally I'll have one day where I fly back and do some promos. So I can keep both up at the same time. It's fun… I'm always in motion.

What was it about the script for Dread that hooked you and made you want to be a part of it?

I've always been fascinated by Clive Barker's dark, Gothic world, and I was a fan of the Hellraiser series when I was growing up. When I got the script, I was told it involved his short story so I read them both and I thought, this is much more of a personalized, humanized version of these dark tales that Clive Barker likes to tell. I really liked it because it was something that could happen in real life -- the derangement of a character like Quaid [played by Shaun Evans]-- that was something that was grounded in reality, and I really liked that aspect of it. I was kind of on the fence, so I gave it to a friend of mine to read and he got through all of it, and at the end he was like, oh man, I almost vomited toward the end. That's when I knew I had to do it.

What was it that you think brought him to that crucial vomiting point?

I think it was the realistic element of the ending, really. I don't want to give away or spoil the ending, but the realistic, visceral imagery of what Anthony was able to pull out of a short story and turn into a full length feature script -- it's one of those things, I have such a strong imagination whenever I read a script, I can visualize things pretty well. A lot of my friends are like that too because they're artists.

In the DVD special features for Dread, there's a behind the scenes moment where we see you eat a maggot. Please tell us there's a good reason for why that happened?

[Laughs] That was kind of a dare; I don't know if they got the entire scene on camera, but you know… In the beginning of Dread, Stephen's only friend is a crow. There are a couple of scenes that I don't think made it into the final cut where I feed the crow little maggots.

So these maggots were on set the whole time, especially towards the end, and people were always joking with one another, "You have to eat a maggot!" They're full of protein, they're actually not that bad for you. So Anthony DiBlasi was holding one out, and I happened to be covered in blood and it had been a long day, and somebody asked me to eat the maggot -- so I did!

The funniest thing about that is that someone's already posted that clip to the 100 Monkeys message board under the title, "Sexiest Jackson Moments…"

You're kidding me! Wow. I'll take it! How familiar were you with Clive Barker's work beforehand, and did you ever get the chance to meet with him at any point during production?

I never got the chance to meet Clive. I was running and gunning, shooting that film; I was up there for 28 days, I believe, and worked every day. I don't think I had a single day off. So I never got to meet him, but I really wanted to. I'm extremely jealous of Anthony, who got to meet with him a lot. He's worked with Clive in a producer capacity several times, and then he was able to adapt this short story into a feature. I thought he did an amazing job with it, I love the slight changes and how he expanded upon his ideas to lengthen it out and make it a full length story.

One Barker-esque element that is hinted at early on in Dread is the subtle sexual subtext between Stephen and Quaid, especially as horror and sexuality can often be quite intertwined. Is that tension something that was present in your mind or discussed beforehand?

I'd definitely say that horror films are the best kinds of films to take a date to. You get a little scared, you get a little closer. But in terms of filming, there were only a couple of scenes that seemed to me to have a slight sexuality, especially when Quaid is sort of laying out his idea for this project and he's in the shower while Stephen's outside the shower. I think that was one of those first moments, for Stephen, where he's thinking, "This guy's kind of weird." And of course, after the club and all the things that go down in the house afterwards, there's definitely a sexual [vibe] there. But I don't think it's too homoerotic. It's more a subtlety of these two guys becoming friends and testing the , which is always kind of weird.

Dread does have its gory moments, but it's much more a deeply psychological thriller than a straight out blood-fest -- and that seems to be what makes it all the more disturbing, doesn't it?

I definitely agree. You know, it's hard for me to classify Dread as a horror film; it does have horrific elements, but horror to me has always had more of a fantastical element - movies with monsters, or films like Friday the13th or Halloween. As opposed to this, which I think of more as a psychological thriller; it's much more about testing the limits of your mind and your psyche, exploring the darker side.

On the subject of fear, what's the first movie that ever scared you?

The first movie that ever scared me was Poltergeist. I watched it when I was about ten, my older sisters made me watch it. Freaked me out for two or three days. I couldn't sleep at all, I was scared of my own shadow… that was definitely the first movie that ever did it for me in the horror genre, and it freaked me the hell out. My parents got real mad at my older sisters for that one.

Dread is a film more in the traditional horror realm than perhaps Twilight is, but do you see much of an overlap between those two worlds?

I don't know… I've always been varied in terms of the art I like to create; I'm a musician, I'm an actor, I write, I just directed my first music video for one of Spencer Bell's songs called "Beautiful, More So," and I also have the same degree of varied taste in art. So it depends on your taste, really. But they are very different films. [Laughs] Twilight's more of a romantic action film, and Dread's more of a psychological thriller. The two are very different, but that's also how I've managed my career, through very different mediums and different characters, as much as I can. It lets me spread my wings as an actor and try on different shoes for a little while.

At the beginning of Dread, Stephen meets Quaid as a stranger in a darkened alley. Have you had any similarly fateful, random, life-changing meetings in strange places yourself?

Well, I don't have too many life-changing experiences in dark alleys, I've got to admit. [Laughs] But I was fortunate enough to go to a high school called Interlochen Arts Academy, and we had halls in the dorms that we lived in, and I lived down the hall from two guys who eventually became my best friends later in life. One of them was Spencer Bell, who I met as I was blaring some Primitive Radio Gods. I don't know if you know that band, but it's a fairly obscure band from back in the '90s. And Spencer came by and said, "Hey man, are you playing Primitive Radio Gods? Hell yeah, I love that band!" We kind of became friends through music.

That was about ten years ago; Spencer passed away about three and a half years ago from adrenal cancer. Spencer and I had always written and played music for each other, sending it back and forth when he was living in New York and I was living out in Los Angeles. Spencer formed a couple of bands, and then he passed away and his CD was released posthumously. So now we're working with his father, Bill Bell, and his other band members from The Stevedores, to release his albums posthumously. We're about to release the third one, and we're supporting it with the Spencer Bell Legacy Foundation which is coming up in Dallas, Texas, on April 24. There will be performances by Spencer's other band mates from bands he's been in since he was 15, and a record release of his new album that we put out. So I hope people come check that out. You can go to ASCCNow.com, which is Artists Supporting a Cure for Cancer Now, or SpencerBellMemorial.com. There's some amazing music that he was making that never got a chance to see the light of day until he passed away. That changed my life.

Tell us about your guest spot on Criminal Minds, which may have been a surprising role for some fans see you in.

That was one of the roles that I, to use a vampire pun, loved sinking my teeth into. I just love playing characters that are really out there. That was a hard role; I got to work with [actor-director] Jason Alexander, who's incredible to work with as an actor because he is an actor and he understands the difficulty in trying to play extreme characters as honestly as possible. I had a great time working on that set. I got to work with Matthew Gray Gubler a lot - he's one of the coolest guys I've met so far.

Right after The Twilight Saga: Eclipse premieres (June 30), you've got a prominent role in M. Night Shyamalan's epic-scale fantasy film The Last Airbender (July 2). What kind of fun did you get to have on that set?

M. Night Shyamalan brought it to life; it's the first film he hasn't completely come up with from scratch. It's pretty cool, it's going to be an amazing action movie for families. It's an amazing fantasy realm. I was stoked to be a part of it, I got to do like three months of kung fu training.

What forms of fighting did you train in?

It was a lot of different forms, kind of a crash course. I learned power fist form and they taught me a lot of grappling techniques and holds, it was basically a run-through of many forms. I will say that my kicks are terrible. I don't kick so well. I'm pretty good with my hands and my hand-to-hand combat, but foot-to-foot? Not so good.

Do you get to use your character's signature sword in this as well?

Not yet. Right now it's still the first series, so he's rocking a boomerang.

Lastly, what do you get to call M. Night Shyamalan on set? M? Night? Mr. Shyamalan?

Night. I call him Night. I wondered that, too. He's an amazingly cool guy. It's great to get to work with someone who I've respected for years."

Fearnet.com Jackson Rathbone interview Pt. 1

Check out the fearnet Jackson Rathbone interview Pt. 1
Photobucket
"Forget Edward Cullen and Jacob Black -- for some Twilighters, it's all about Team Jasper. In this summer's The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, fans will finally get to see where the 167-year-old recently vegetarian vampire came from… or rather, who he came from.

FEARnet caught up with Jackson Rathbone, currently on tour with his band 100 Monkeys, for more details on what to expect from Jasper's steamy Civil War-era flashbacks. He teased his scenes with Oscar-nominated actress Catalina Sandino Moreno, who plays the vampire Maria, and gave us a glimpse of what we'll see in Jasper's back story. (Hint: Fighting! Horses! Lust!)

In addition to his Civil War days, expect to see Jasper's training put to good use in Eclipse's present, as he trains his fellow Cullens for battle. But fun as those scenes were, Rathbone tells us he had a particularly strange time throwing punches at certain cast-mates...

(Fans following Rathbone's parallel music career: also see what he said about taking 100 Monkeys on the road after their current U.S. tour. And stay tuned for more from our chat with Rathbone on his horror flick Dread!)

FEARnet: In The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, you get to work with Catalina Sandino Moreno…

Ah man, Catalina. That was amazing, working with her. I was a huge fan of Maria, Full of Grace and she was lovely to work with.

We'll finally get to learn a little bit more about your character, Jasper Hale. What we can expect to see from Jasper's flashbacks and your scenes with Catalina?

Jasper's back story is that he was turned into a vampire during the Civil War era, so I got to don the Civil War regalia and ride a horse again -- I haven't been on a horse in like two years, so that was really fun. Basically, that's how I meet Maria, who's played by Catalina. Maria turns Jasper in order to make him the leader, or trainer, of the army that she needs in the South. Vampire armies are very prevalent in the South in those days. You'll get to see a lot of deadly training vampire scenes, and a little bit of the love-lust relationship between Jasper and Maria and how it doesn't really pan out.

Sounds like the type of turning scene your fans are going to love seeing. From the books and films, we know that vampires are turned with bites in various places; we've seen Carlisle, for example, bite Esme rather romantically on the neck to change her. So… can you tell us where exactly Maria bites Jasper?

Where does she bite him? Well, I don't want to give everything away. I've got to keep some little secrets. [Laughs] I think people are going to be pretty happy about it.

Fair enough! Were there any particularly funny moments you had while filming Eclipse?

You know, whenever you get into these fight scenes it gets a little funny because you're going after each other, and we've all been such good friends for three years now, so throwing a punch at your friend is kind of weird. Jasper has to train the Cullen family, so it was weird… I didn't want to throw punches at Nikki Reed or Ashley [Greene]! It just didn't feel right to me to hit a girl. I was raised very Southern, and that's very wrong where I come from.

Switching gears to your musical interests, do you and 100 Monkeys have any plans to tour outside of the U.S.?

I think we are [but] I don’t know how soon. We have the rest of our dates that are posted on our website, but we're going to try and get out to the U.K., and we really want to get down to Australia and South America. It's just about finding the right time; hopefully we'll get down there as soon as possible."

Sweet pic of New Moon cast with Stephanie Meyer and Volturi

Man, wouldn't you just love to be a fly on the wall for this pic?  Or better yet, wouldn't you just love to be Rob's underwear.  I'm just saying . . . . .

'Will Robsten Get Their Groove Back in June?

Check this out from popsugar

Is Eclipse gonna give Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart their box-office mojo back, after the so-disappointing Remember Me and small-time The Runaways? (Tho that one performed solidly, for a limited release.)

The first Eclipse poster was released yesterday with our gal K.Stew front and center, while her minion men lurk behind her. And if you haven't already seen the first scene leaked with Kristen and Rob lying in bed together, you can peep that above.

So how does the third flick compare to the rest of the franchise?

With David Slade directing (whom we hear was adored almost as much as Chris Weitz around Summit parts), fans have been concerned that Eclipse is gonna be way too dark, brooding and fight-tastic than the previous two films.

As we've told you, this is all true. It's not going to be as Robsten sexy as we'd all prefer and will be "slightly edgier." But that doesn't mean the movie sucks!

On the contrary, we're told by those who have seen some rough cuts of the third Twi flick that it's looking to be pretty awesome.

"It's not like the fight scenes and edgier subject matter [were] pulled out of nowhere," says one of our studio insiders. "The script totally follows the third book. If fans liked the book, they won't be disappointed in the movie."

We're pretty sure that Robert Pattinson + Kristen Stewart together = box-office gold. No matter what.

"[Slade] did a great job. He was the perfect director for this film."

Hmmm, all this positive Slade feedback makes us wonder if he's still in the running to direct Breaking Dawn(s)? Still throwing it out there.

So. Are you all ready for Robsten to reunite this June? Or are you the minority out there who have been digging their solo projects?

We're super looking forward to both Pattinson and Stewart's next projects to come out, though. That will be telling if the problem is them, their movies, or both. These poor kids just seem doomed acting with anyone else but each other!

Kellan Lutz – Poseidon in “War of the Gods”

Kellan Lutz to Get Wet as Poseidon in "War of the Gods"

It's gonna get wet and wild for Kellan Lutz.

The "Twilight" star is joining the cast of "War of the Gods," playing the lord of the sea, Poseidon.

Mickey Rourke, Freida Pinto, and Henry Cavill are also involved in the mythological movie beginning production next month under Tarsem Singh's direction.

The plot follows a young warrior who leads mortals into battle alongside Greek gods to defeat the Titans, a group of evil elder deities.

Kristen and her “potty mouth” (its one of the reasons I love her)

Kristen Stewart might be doing some onscreen shocking in 'The Runaways' with her girl-on-girl kiss and her portrayal of rock and roll life.

But while filming 'New Moon' she did her real shocking off-camera.

As 'New Moon' rocks the film world with its celebrated DVD-release this weekend, director Chris Weitz tells PopEater exclusively that if there were a blooper reel for swears, the actress playing earnest Bella Swan would dominate.

"It's Kristen by several lengths actually," says Weitz, of his champion swearer. When asked what the swear of choice was for Stewart, he laughed. "I couldn't say over a domestic phone line."

Weitz says the filmmakers did collect a digital "bin" of swear outtakes, but the public will never see it. "I think that blooper reel would take us into NC17 territory," he says. "I don't think that's what Summit Entertainment has in mind in terms of extras."

Instead, folks buying the much-awaited "New Moon" DVD release will get a wholesome documentary on the making of the movie and commentary from Weitz and editor Peter Lambert. There are no deleted scenes (they will come out in future DVD releases) and no bloopers.

"Everyone likes to say that things were hilarious on the set, but we were working so hard that we couldn't afford to have bloopers," says Weitz. "Every take counted."

That is except for the ones which ended in unprintable swears. "Those kids have some mouths," says Weitz before correcting himself. "Except for Taylor (Lautner). He was always very well-spoken."

USA Today “The Runaways' is poised to give girls an education”

By Marco R. della Cava, USA TODAY

The Runaways detonated just a few hits in their brief '70s run, chief among them the provocative Cherry Bomb. But the crater they left behind still smolders.

Those unfamiliar with this posse of girl rockers get a crash course Friday with the release of The Runaways, in which Kristen Stewart vamps as tough-as-nails Joan Jett and Dakota Fanning channels her inner David Bowie as lead singer Cherie Currie.

"As a teenager in the music business, I was expecting roses," says guitarist Lita Ford, 51, who went on to gig with a range of heavy-metal acts before settling down with ex-Nitro lead shrieker Jim Gillette. "Instead, what we got was a bunch of freaks."

By Matt Sayles, AP

Joan Jett, left, Kristen Stewart, Dakota Fanning and Cherie Currie at the premiere of The Runaways in Los Angeles on March 11. Stewart plays Jett, and Fanning plays Currie in the film, which is in theaters Friday.

The band came together in 1975 in L.A. under the eerie gaze of producer Kim Fowley, who envisioned a girl group with testosterone. He got that in spades with Jett, Currie, Ford, drummer Sandy West (who died of lung cancer in 2006) and a variety of bass players, including Micki Steele, later of The Bangles.

Track the action song by song, mingle with fellow fans and keep current with Brian Mansfield's updates at our American Idol community.

Though The Runaways' output was spotty and their fame confined mainly to Japan, they created a template used by everyone from The Go-Go's to Hole.

"The pioneers in anything usually get scalped, (but) they definitely had a punk energy that led to today," says Rolling Stone assistant editor Andy Greene They also had the bad luck of predating MTV. "That (channel) was made for a band of young girls rocking out in skimpy outfits."

Attitude more than musicianship is The Runaways' enduring calling card, says Nicole Emmenegger, who writes the blog Jenny Woolworth's Women in Punk. "The notion of teenage girls making this raw music is very inspirational."

That's not lost on Stewart.

"We've grown up being told that, as girls, we can do whatever we want, and that just wasn't the case for them," Stewart said after a screening at the Sundance Film Festival in January.

Jett is alone among her Runaways peers for having never strayed from music, fueled by her 1982 hit, I Love Rock 'n' Roll. Currie's book Neon Angel is the foundation of The Runaways. Today, she's a chain-saw artist.

Ford set her guitar licks aside and home-schools her two sons in the British West Indies. She'll perform with Twisted Sister's Dee Snider in Las Vegas March 26-27, a dry run for a planned fall engagement called I Wanna Rock: The '80s Come Alive.

"My sons have never seen me play," Ford says. "So there's this new movie, which I'm sure we'll see. Or better yet, they can see the real me on stage. Yeah."

Will audiences ever want to see the 'Twilight' stars do anything else?

If there's one actress who could push a "Behind the Music-"style docudrama about a 1970s all-girl band to the top of the box-office charts, it's Kristen Stewart.

So why couldn't she do it?

"The Runaways," Floria Sigismondi's biopic that, of course, stars Stewart as femme-punk icon Joan Jett and Dakota Fanning as her bandmate-rival-lover Cherie Currie, earned an extremely modest $800,000 in its opening weekend. For most limited releases, that number wouldn't be horrible. But the film opened on 244 screens, meaning it averaged a paltry $3,300 per screen. Given the die-hards (or Twi-hards) you'd expect would turn out for a Kristen Stewart debut, those numbers aren't impressive; in fact, they're a lot more punk than glam.

Pundits on Monday had plenty of reasons for the disappointing performance. Certainly the movie's R-rating hurt; younger Stewart fans might have bought tickets had they not been restricted from doing so by the MPAA. (Bob Berney, the head of distributor Apparition, noted that the rating "possibly ke[pt] some of the younger audience away.")

But there may be a deeper lesson here about Stewart: For all her acting versatility, when she strays from her "Twilight" wheelhouse, the fans don't roll with her. That was, after all, also the message some experts gleaned from her first post-"Twilight" movie, "Adventureland," which grossed just $16 million domestically despite getting some marketing play as a Stewart vehicle (and not three months after "Twilight" blew off the box-office doors). It's a lesson that's especially pointed with "Runaways" because Stewart, in inhabiting the role of Joan Jett, is in many ways picking up where Bella Swan left off. She's playing the moody rebel in both, yet fans apparently only want to see her playing a certain kind of moody rebel.

A similar point could be inferred from Stewart's "Twilight' co-star Robert Pattinson, who just last week released his first mainstream movie in which he doesn't play a vampire. With the romantic drama "Remember Me," Pattinson was taking on a genre even more difficult than period music-themed biopics, but, like Stewart, was also echoing parts of his "Twilight" performance (the tortured-lover part).

That should have locked up a chunk of his fan base.  But the movie wound up grossing $14 million in its first two weeks -- a (slightly) more impressive number than "Runaways" until you realize it opened on more than 2,000 screens. Its per-screen opening of $3,600, it turns out, mirrors Stewart's own lackluster weekend.

Stewart's and Pattinson's careers are evolving, and both will probably take on a lot more roles by the time all is said and done. It's also worth pointing out that neither saw their recent releases get the full marketing press -- Apparition is an indie label, and Summit, despite some TV and outdoor spending, chose its spots carefully on the lower-budget drama.

Still, the conventional wisdom is that "Twilight" marks the kind of all-consuming phenomenon that can mint stars who, with their reputations solidified, then stalk off to other movies and take their audiences with them. But the last two weeks prove otherwise.

Which brings us to the third leg in the "Twilight" tripod: Taylor Lautner, arguably as hot now as Pattinson was after the first film (if not hotter), has over the past few months booked more movies than a groupie takes cellphone pictures; he's signed on for action-adventures such as Paramount's "Stretch Armstrong" and Lionsgate's "Bourne"-like "Abduction."

Those movies sit in a far more commercial realm, but if Lautner is equally ill-equipped to bring his "Twilight" fan base within him, the career damage could run deeper. It's one thing to take on a small romantic drama with Emilie de Ravin and go out meekly -- it's another to take on a big-budget franchise based on a Hasbro action figure. Suddenly splitting that last "Twilight" movie into two doesn't seem like such a bad career move.

More about the Remember Me ending!

SPOILERS!

“Remember Me”: Stirring Up Controversy And Emotions

by Bryan Reesman under Cinemania, Drama

WARNING: THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS.

Yesterday I submitted an essay to Moviefone about the controversial ending to the new film Remember Me, directed by Allen Coulter, written by Will Fetters and starring Robert Pattinson (Twilight) and Emilie de Ravin (Lost). A topical Moviefone story can often pull in one or two dozen comments. Some have topped 100. This one reached 300 within 12 hours of being posted. At one point last night, I was literally receiving one comment per minute, and during one hour alone, the post received 78,000 views, easily making it the post of the night and landing it a top spot on AOL’s main page.

The point of contention of the film is the ending, which takes place on September 11, 2001. (You can read about the story and how it ends there by clicking on the above link.) When the troubled main character Tyler (played by Pattinson, who also co-executive produced the movie) seems to be turning his life around — uniting his dysfunctional family and in the midst of repairing a deep rift with his girlfriend Ally (de Ravin) — he perishes in one of the Twin Towers, his diary landing amid the debris. Many critics and some audience members have found the use of the World Trade Center attacks to be offensive and exploitative, while many people (especially many of those who posted comments to my story) found the ending moving as the central themes of the films are coping with grief, making amends with those close to you, moving forward with life and learning to embrace the simple joys and to live in the moment.

And after 9/11, weren’t many of us thinking deeply about those things?

It is heartening to see so many people pouring out their thoughts about this sincere film, which has been savaged by critics, many of whom find the film’s denouement to be in bad taste. Obviously 9/11 was a traumatizing and polarizing event, and the effects of that day have been felt by Americans on different levels — political, social and personal. I feel the critical backlash to the film is undeserved, and many filmgoers agree. But the debate that my essay sparked also indicates how the politicization of this tragic event — which has been used for personal gain by unscrupulous politicians since that day — has flared up people’s emotions and tied them in to other issues.

Which is why Remember Me has struck such a chord. This cinematic tale is conceivably what one of the many personal portraits of the victims might have been like. We often hear about how many people died that day, how evil the attacks were and how it was a clarion call to fight terrorism. But honestly, we never hear enough about intimate stories like this one. 9/11 has become so politicized by Washington and the media that it is nice to see a story that uses the event to strike a personal chord rather than make any sort of political statement. Because no matter what, loss is loss, regardless of how it happens or why.

I feel that to deem references about 9/11 to be taboo for artistic purposes is akin to acting like it did not happen, even if that is not the intended reason. At the very least, it is being in a state of denial and ties in with what the film is trying to teach us: that we need to move forward and not be forever haunted and trapped by our individual pasts, no matter how painful they are. At the same time, we need to acknowledge and remember those who matter or who have mattered to us. Granted, the feelings of someone who outran the massive dust cloud in lower Manhattan or who lost someone in the Twin Towers tragedy will be very different than the rest of us, so it is understandable that they might more uncomfortable with this subject matter. But even some of those in that smaller group who posted comments to my story felt moved by what they saw in Remember Me. Perhaps it is because ultimately we need to live in hope and not despair, even when confronted with something horrible. It takes time to heal from a traumatic event — and to be honest, knowing people who have been through difficult situations in their life, I know that never fully happens — and these wounds are clearly still fresh. But often in order to move forward from something painful, we need to take a look back at where we’ve been, and that is never easy, no matter how much time has passed or how ready we may or may not be.

I think the filmmakers understood this and handled the subject matter respectfully.

Bel Ami – Filming Update

HOLLYWOOD stars Robert Pattinson, Uma Thurman and Christina Ricci were spotted at Balls Park yesterday (Wednesday) whilst filming their latest movie.

The actors were at the Manor House in Hertford filming Bel Ami – a movie adaptation of Guy de Maupassant's novel with the same title – originally set in Paris.

Pattinson plays Georges Duroy – a man who rises to the top by manipulating a series of powerful and wealthy mistresses.

The actor stars opposite Uma Thurman, who plays a woman high up in Parisian society and later becomes Duroy's wife.

Christina Ricci plays one of Duroy's many mistresses in the film.

The stars were spotted this morning as they were on their way to hair and make-up, all stars apart from Pattinson walked the 30 metres from their trailers to the film set.

Thurman was wearing denim jeans knee high boots and a brown jacket, while Ricci had her hair styled in 19th century ringlets.

The stars are due to be on set till the weekend and the film is due to be released in 2011.

Entertainment Weekly on the Breaking Dawn Directors

Entertainment Weekly reported this morning that Summit is in talks with some big name directors to film the possibly two-part film, including Portland native Gus Van Sant. His reps even confirmed to EW that he'd been approached about the project.

While Van Sant has often worked in Hollywood or other locations, it's a known fact that he loves filming in Portland. He's also previously worked with Portland casting director Lana Veenker, who worked extensively on the first Twilight film, which was filmed in Portland in early 2008.

While Summit says it is still deciding whether to film Breaking Dawn as one movie or two (the book clocks in at more than 750 pages), Deadline Hollywood previously reported that filmmakers were moving forward with the two-movie plan. That same report also indicated that filming would begin this fall, and interviews with actors from the series have suggested a similar plan for a filming schedule.

While Twilight was filmed in Portland, production on the second and third movies -- New Moon and Eclipse -- moved to Vancouver, B.C. in 2009. However, since then, Oregon lawmakers have approved an increase in the state's film tax incentive program.

Rumors about production returning to Portland were also perpetuated when crews broke down all of the Twilight Saga sets in Vancouver after filming on Eclipse wrapped last fall.

Remember Me “Mean Girl” Interview

We all love looking at Robert Pattinson on the big screen, and fortunately we don't have to wait until the June release of Eclipse! Rob's new movie Remember Me is coming out this week!

Rob plays Tyler, a young man torn apart by tragedy, who falls in love with Ally (Emilie de Ravin), who is also dealing with a painful past. The movie, set in New York City, follows the two as their love blossoms and events threaten to tear them apart.

We had a chance to talk with 11-year-old Florida native Peyton List about her character in Remember Me (a taunting school girl), being on set with Rob and her other upcoming movie!

QF: Tell us about your character in Remember Me.

Peyton: She's not the nicest character. I'm the mean girl in class…especially to Caroline (Tyler's little sister played by Ruby Jerins). In a sleepover scene, I cut her hair.

QF: What was it like working with Rob? Did you feel starstruck?

Peyton: I really didn't, but one girl was shaking and crying!

QF: What was the most challenging scene to shoot?

Peyton: The most challenging scene to shoot was probably the one where Caroline comes into school, and I start picking on her. Rob had to throw a fire extinguisher out the window, so it was kind of crazy.

QF: Were there any bloopers or embarrassing moments while filming?

Peyton: Rob grabbed the fire extinguisher and couldn't lift it. It was too heavy and he fell to the ground! He wasn't hurt or anything, but he was laughing. They had to empty it and make it lighter.

QF: What's your character like in The Sorcerer's Apprentice?

Peyton: She's really nice. When a boy in class gets picked on, she doesn't make fun of him like all the other kids do. She's the popular girl in class, but she's not a mean girl like my character in Remember Me.

Remember Me hits theaters March 12th, and look for The Sorcerer's Apprentice in theaters July 16th.

Which movie are you most excited to see: Remember Me or The Sorcerer's Apprentice? Tell us in the comments!

Back of the package
This was a paper insert attached to the back with some sticky tape, it was easily removed to show the "real" back of the dvd (see above pic)
This is the inside flap, has a really pretty pic of my 3 fav peeps!
Inside flap holds disc 1 which has the movie on it, and a really cool image of the Volterra clock tower
The back flap has disc 2 which has all of the bonus content and a bunch of red-cloaked "Volterrians" - I made that up don't quote me on the quote
This is the inside middle which is actually a pouch with a flap that holds the exclusive necklace that came in the set
and here is the spread of Ms. New Moon herself - wozzzaa!  Check out those apples!
This is the necklace that came with, it is reversible with one side having the wolf tattoo and the other having the cullen crest.  Chain seems to be 20-22" but I haven't taken it out of the package yet!  Don't know why I so want to wear it!

Well I am very happy with my purchase!  I got it for $28.  But I will still probably end up with the target version as well.  Hope that helps!

Kristen goes House Hunting, in Rob’s Coat?

Kristen Stewart House Hunts in Her Skinny Jeans

Kristen Stewart stopped to put gas in her car in Beverly Hills today between checking out a few houses in the area. She's finally on a break after promoting The Runaways, though she has yet to take off on that vacation she seemed so excited for. She has a few months before things kick into high gear for the next Twilight extravaganza, but most of you are already excited to see her front and center in the new official Eclipse poster. She and Robert were on simultaneous press tours as he talked Remember Me and she The Runways, and next time it will be all eyes on Edward and Bella together again.

Gossip Cop: Battling one Rumor at a Time, Rob Rumor Gets Recycled

Listen Up! Recycled Robert Pattinson Rumors Get Tossed
Environmentalists should be really pleased with some gossip sites – they do an awful lot of recycling.
And no one gets the deja vu treatment more than Robert Pattinson.
His relationship with Kristen Stewart "may have all been a scam," one rumor mill proposes.
Why?
"Because Robert is in love with an ex girlfriend who is also a British model named Kelly Blakewell."
Sigh.
Has a single outlet actually produced evidence — even weak evidence — that Pattinson is secretly dating Blakewell? A single piece of actual information since this nonsense first surfaced?
Nope. The "new" story cites Showbiz Spy, which last week referenced a random, barely readable fan site where the rumor Gossip Cop already busted had originated.
Since then, nothing factual or reality-based has given the story any credibility. Just repetition.
"Is Robert and Kristens (sic) Relationship A Joke?" asks the recycler.
No, but this "reporting" is.

*****     *****     *****     *****     *****     *****

Another story hitting our inbox today talks about how Pattinson needs someone to "feed" him his lines given his supposedly poor short-term memory. According to the item, he tries to practice "but in the end he still needs a little help."

The outlet uses Pattinson's reported difficulty with learning lines to segue into… (surprise!)… faux news about his relationship with Stewart. He and his co-star "have been linked romantically," but the actor "still won't completely spill."
"I think most people like to have a secret with a girl or boyfriend," Pattinson is quoted as saying. "It keeps things exciting."
Gossip Cop wonders who "feeds" old lines to this site.
Because Pattinson said those words… MONTHS ago… about his character in The Twilight Saga: New Moon.
*****     *****     *****     *****     *****     *****Pattinson and Stewart have a lot of projects on the horizon. Hopefully sites will start reporting more about (abundant) professional news instead of reprinting anonymous, discredited junk about secret girlfriends or cannibalizing previous interviews to take quotes out of context.
Throwing garbage into the landfill where it belongs might not be good for the planet, but it'll warm Gossip Cop's heart.
